IHC / ATC Grants Bail to Senior Journalist Matiullah Jan in Drugs and Narcotics Case


Islamabad ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra approves Matiullah Jan’s bail.

Matiullah Jan Senior Pakistani Journalist was arrested on 28 NOV under anti-terror laws, released from Adiala Jail on Saturday around 5 to 6 PM after an Islamabad ATC (anti-terrorism court)  granted him bail in a terrorism and narcotics case.

Jan was locked in the case on Thursday after reportedly being detained in Islamabad at the E-9 checkpoint on Wednesday night, with his son alleging “unknown individuals” had abducted the journalist. 

IHC suspended the Jan’s two-day physical remand that was granted to the police on Thursday, following which the court ordered him to be sent on judicial remand.

Jan was presented before ATC judge Tahir Abbas Sipra yesterday, after the Journalist’s legal team filed his bail petition. Advocates Imaan Mazari, Hadi Ali Chattha and Attaullah Kundi appeared as Jan’s counsels in the court. Mazari told AFP. “We know there’s a lot of anger from the establishment for his reporting,” she added.

ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra, approved the bail against a bond worth Rs10,000.
